their immediate answer was of course, "no!"
then followed by a tirade about marriage, and how repealing this law would affect it. but before they finished this tirade, they mentioned "they can do whatever they want behind closed doors, but not in public."
then i revealed to them that section 377 was the portion that detailed what you could do behind closed doors... and that 377a was just a more focused section.
and i pointed out that it had nothing to do with homosexuality lol. and their argument crumbled to dust lol
i guess there's this huge misconception weaved into the papers to prey on the lack of understanding of the penal code . Though much of section 377 has been removed, a large part of the older section of society are still adamant because they are blinded by the fallacy that repealing such a law governing what u do behind closed doors will eventually lead to gay unions and more homos...
u DO know thats totally not true right?
but well, not that i favour queer people or anything, but i just find that the camp mooting against these queer peeps are employing unfair and unethical means to psycho people into joining their homophobic tirade.
why blog about this when its past; dead in the water? well, it wouldn't have mattered any much more if i blogged this a month ago. and so many flaws in their arguments, especially on the "keep" side, have been brought to light. its very disgusting that they'd prey on the general conservative mindset of older singaporeans to further their own bigoted, religious and discriminatory beliefs to influence matters in a secular state .
i think i'll read karl marx's work soon. seems like alot of insights can be gleaned from a work over a 100 years old, and so demonised by the general society for so long. well, i'll remember to bring along a huge truckload of salt.
