If not for this I wouldn't have posted again. Its an interview by some reporter with a former chief minister, david marshall(i hope he's still alive). Its actually dated 1994, but 13 years on, i find that its very perturbing that his words still ring true.

read that BIG chunk of text(30 mins -1hr) before reading my views. lest i give you some wrong impression. Think about it for at least 10 minutes, pick on some things you don't agree with during that time, then continue here to see how i think. and mind you, i rarely link (uh, silly tests not withstanding)

Though i might not agree with his views on the death sentence (maybe i've been brainwashed) I can see that there is a certain romanticism about life, society, and people that is so lacking from our society today. Maybe its this kind of justice , this kind of care and heroic service that i hunger for. or maybe not. lol but its definitely something so lacking in singapore that you feel its just not worth it staying on coz in the end its all about money -and elsewhere , the money is SO much bigger.
That interview rebukes ALL the MM's comments and ALL the "reasons" given for the recent ministerial pay rise. Well, it does it for me. Though its very hard on free press, it does point out that there is a painful lack of a totally immune "court jester" that will poke the over;inflated egos of those in power. someone to criticise, openly, the actions and decisions of those "up there".
It does, in a suttle way, put the blame , and the onus of fixing the problem(of youth apathy, lack of social mores), squarely on the shoulders of the government in power now. Its so sad to see that those in power can almost literraly "get away with murder" by setting such a high "remuneration" for ministers. If it was anywhere else in the world, there would be riots on the streets. Riots, not just protests.
but enough of the political crap.
there is such an insight into the "meaning of life" in that one interview. spoken from one man. his views, his values and principles all flow from that text. Well, thats what i garnered anyway. Its definitely this something i'm missing in my life now, that somehow is explained in that interview. That interview is about singapore, about law, about youths, the ruling party of singapore, the current(and still current) state of social decay ; everything that has little or nothing to do with ME, as a person. so why in the world do i identify with what this, 80-90+year old guy has to say? Clearly there is some link? That emptiness inside.

purely for the money? And if your dad was a minister (LOL) and you could leech off his assets after he's just a memory, even after you split it with your siblings, would you still WANT to study?
there's this maslow's heirachy of needs .And if you think about it, we singaporeans are clearly past stage 1 ,2 and 3. If we don't start realising stage 4 and then 5, we'll start moving to places where we will. I don't want to grow up to be a money churning machine.
I am still undecided with regards to my path in higher education. but the main reason was that i was undecided on my path in life.I didn't know myself, and i clearly didn't know what i wanted.
hate to say this, but i'd love to read more . lol . inspiring stuff. And i never read!
