How do you build self confidence?

the americans have it. There sure isn't any lack of it in the preliminary rounds of Am Idol. And some asians have it too(will hung anyone? lol) So how do you get this Self Confidence?

Is it genetic? My bro seems so much more confident than ME... so that can't be it. hey, no one else in the family has a lower self esteem than myself :X well, thats just me degrading myself again.

Well, it certainly can't be bought off the shelf.. if not people would be buying them in the dozens just for that next interview or meeting!

So what makes you so sure of yourself? what is it that enables you to trust yourself to such a large extent??

an answer i got from a friend was to "get a gf" =.= ok , maybe he was joking, but there was some truth in that. If you think about it, you would be more confident of yourself, if someone believed in you.Not just your abilities, but YOU. But thats not the whole key to it all right? people don't slip into depression the moment they get divorced coz they lost their self confidence (ok not everyone at least)

would the answer lie in the lack of self expression? nah can't be lah, i'm feeling so bad now at salsa i feel like curling up under a rock.

or is it the lack of a chance to really prove myself? But to some degree i have done it academically... but thats quite a long time ago. i'm a basketcase for sports, so i can't prove myself in that field. but alot of people in the US who appear on TV are SO sure of themselves even though they're ABSOLUTELY repulsive in some way. Maybe its the food LOL

OR is it the lack of a stable family? no, i'd consider my family to be rather stable, no suicides, no divorces, no siblings eloping..(well not YET,LOL jk) so its kinda stable right?

OR maybe its the lack of this "loving feeling"oooh loving feeling.. LOL what the.. haha maybe its coz i don't feel loved. not like the king of pop's kinda sicko love lah, and not bondage for crying out loud. maybe family warmth. but its already so hot here... HAHA . well, only when my aunts come around.

speaking of which, my niece asked me in mandarin :"li chung gu gu*teochew for younger uncle* (aka jiu jiu in chinese) how come there are so many lao yi*great aunts* " i was super stumped by that lol
